In the understatement of the century, things are not quite the same as they were a couple of weeks ago.聽聽

Like everyone, my Mum and Dad have had to undergo some changes. Previously traditionalists when it came to communication (we only have a landline so my mum can tell me what鈥檚 happened on EastEnders) they鈥檝e embraced technology and have started video calling. It鈥檚 had its moments. The first 2 minutes of most of the calls, I鈥檓 talking to the ceiling before they work out the optimum positioning of the camera, but once they鈥檝e got the hang of it we鈥檙e away. We鈥檝e had a silly hat competition, shared cocktails at happy hour and they like to watch me cook the tea. Although Dad had to leave the room when I did apple crumble, it made his mouth water.

We of course celebrated Mothering Sunday as best we could and popped a cork together. I鈥檝e talked and seen more of my parents in the last 2 weeks than I have in a very long time. It鈥檚 my Mum鈥檚 birthday in a couple of weeks and if I can鈥檛 hug her in real life the video call will be the next best thing, and I know I鈥檓 doing the most loving thing I can by keeping her safe and well.

In one of the most well-known bits of the Bible, it says 鈥楽till these three remain, faith, hope and love, but the greatest of these is love.鈥櫬�

聽The way I tell those I love, I love them might have had to change and might have to stay changed for a little while, just yet, but that love is no way diminished. If anything it is stronger and brighter and more beautiful than ever.

You can鈥檛 wear out love by saying it too much. You can鈥檛 break it or tarnish it or exhaust it from over use. Love is a limitless commodity that only strengthens the more its exercised, a bit like my triathlon thighs which are now like forged steel after those triathlons - I could crack walnuts with 鈥榚m.

So, until I can tell my Mum and Dad in the flesh that I love them, video calls will have to do. We鈥檝e got a family sing along to show tunes planned for tonight and a game of long distance monopoly. Which reminds me the Bible also tells me that love is patient. Well, we鈥檒l just have to see about that.
