In a new report on the future of CBD in the UK, the industry calls on Government to allow British farmers to grow hemp to produce the oil. CBD - cannabidiol - comes from the leaves and flowers of the hemp plant. It鈥檚 used as an additive in many products, from food and drink to skin treatments and the growing market for it here is reckoned to be worth 300 million pounds a year. No surprise then that farmers would like to get involved, but as of now, although they can grow hemp with a licence, it can't be used for CBD extraction. The Home office told us its waiting for advice from the independent Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs on how the law on CBD products can be strengthened and clarified before anything is decided.
