The 麻豆社 Symphony Orchestra conducted by Alpesh Chauhan join pianist Stephen Hough in Rachmaninov, plus a Richard Baker premiere, and Bruckner鈥檚 transcendental Symphony No.9.
In his most famous work, Sergei Rachmaninov pits piano against orchestra in a witty, bolshie and wickedly entertaining dual. Who wins? Find out as Stephen Hough takes on this remarkable piece.
Anton Bruckner鈥檚 last, unfinished symphony was intended as his great spiritual autobiography. Even from the three movements the composer did finish, we experience intense power, cataclysmic terror and exquisite tenderness. Fate decreed that the symphony would end with music apparently slow enough to stop time itself 鈥 a great, transfiguring Adagio that forms Bruckner鈥檚 epitaph.
The concert begins with the world premiere of a 麻豆社 SO commission: Richard Baker鈥檚 orchestral reimagining of a scene from Alfred Hitchcock鈥檚 1956 thriller The Man Who Knew Too Much.
