Uttoxeter 17
Christina stirs up interest in vintage teaware on today鈥檚 show, which comes from an antiques fair at Uttoxeter Racecourse in Staffordshire.
There鈥檚 a long tradition in Staffordshire of supplying tea sets to the world, but as Christina Trevanion finds out, one maker wowed the postwar generation with its innovative designs. Christina meets Theresa Manship, one of Britain鈥檚 biggest collectors of Midwinter Pottery to learn why it remains highly collectable today.
Hoping to brew up a profit at a fair at Uttoxeter Racecourse are two teams of families. In red, it鈥檚 father and son-in-law Simon and Heath, who are 鈥榟appy to spend if the right item comes along鈥. Against them in blue are mother and daughter-in-law Jill and Kelly. They鈥檙e looking 鈥榝or the hidden gems鈥.
Guided by Jonathan Pratt, the reds spot an antique barometer, but is the outlook fair for the team? Meanwhile, the blues鈥 expert, Irita Marriott, takes a shine to an arts and crafts copper box, but will she convince the reds to splash out? Then it鈥檚 off to the auction in Wrexham, where Matthew Tong is on the rostrum.
