Kate Molleson and Gillian Moore introduce 麻豆社 Radio 3's series exploring the pivotal 'modern' musical works of the 20th century, the groundbreaking composers who created them, and the radical cultural and artistic movements which gave rise to them. In this episode, Kate explores the violent, architectural music of Iannis Xenakis, leading to a full performance of his 鈥渁bstract ballet鈥� 鈥楢ntikthon鈥�. In doing so, we travel from the war-torn streets of Greece in the 1940s, to the heart of a '50s Paris riding The New Wave. Along the way, we enter the heat and ritual of ancient Greece and Pythagorean theory, and pay visits to the studios of the architect Le Corbusier and the musique concr猫te pioneer Pierre Schaeffer.
