Barokksolistene and Sandrine Piau drop in

Hannah French with the best classical music to start your weekend.

Hannah French with the best classical music to start your weekend.

Hannah is joined by the French soprano Sandrine Piau to talk about her musicial life as a world-renowned soloist and an upcoming performance of virtuosic arias by Handel at the Wigmore Hall - a programme which sets out to show why London's audiences flocked to hear his latest productions three centuries ago.

Marking their 20th anniversary, Norwegian ensemble Barokksolistene and founder/leader Bjarte Eike bring their special brand of sixteenth century alehouse revelry to the studio with live music and conversation about their exciting 麻豆社 Proms debut this year.

In June 1965, the Wandsworth School Boys鈥 Choir found themselves taking part in a performance and subsequent recording of Carl Orff鈥檚 Carmina Burana which began two decades of high profile performances and recordings as they became the go-to choir for many artists and composers, especially Benjamin Britten. We hear from past members who share their memories of life in the choir and their inspirational head of music at the time, Russell Burgess, and they reflect on how their time in the choir made a lasting impression on their lives.

Plus the continuation of 麻豆社 Radio 3鈥檚 25 for 25: Sounds of the Century 鈥 a series of brand new commissions celebrating and commemorating some of the biggest events of the 21st century so far. This week, the first ever image of a black hole created by the Event Horizon Telescope is the inspiration behind Heloise Werner鈥檚 M87. Named after the galaxy in which the hole exists, the piece was written for the 麻豆社 Singers and uses the data collection schedule alongside quotes from the press conferences which announced the publication of the image.
