From Horse Whispering to Goat鈥檚 Cheese
Horses, goats and history: Monty Roberts鈥 training techniques in Carmarthenshire, a cheesemaker鈥檚 new path, and 40 years of service at St Fagan's Museum.
This week鈥檚 Country Focus takes us on a journey through the Welsh countryside, meeting people whose lives and careers are shaped by rural traditions, hard work and fresh beginnings.
First, we鈥檙e in Carmarthenshire, where horse trainer Joanna Lowes shares her unique insight into the methods of Monty Roberts 鈥 the man often dubbed 鈥渢he horse whisperer鈥. After working alongside Roberts, Joanna has brought his natural horsemanship techniques to her own yard in Wales, with a focus on trust, communication and understanding between horse and rider.
We stay in Carmarthenshire for the story of a woman who left behind her old career to pursue a dream 鈥 running her own goat farm and making cheese on the hills overlooking Bannau Brycheiniog. Reporter Megan Williams meets her to hear how she turned her vision into reality, and the challenges and rewards of making a fresh start in the countryside.
Finally, we head to the outskirts of Cardiff and to one of Wales鈥 most beloved cultural landmarks: St Fagans National Museum of History. Farm manager Brian Davies is celebrating 40 years of service at the museum, helping generations of visitors learn about rural life in Wales through the centuries. Rhodri Davies meets Brian to reflect on his remarkable career and the changes he has witnessed over four decades.
