During World War II, the United States and the Soviet Union collaborated closely to defeat Nazi Germany. But behind the scenes, tensions between the Allies and a ruthless competition for Nazi weapons technology began even before the war ended, quickly escalating to extreme levels.

The first episode of the series follows how the superpowers began to seek an even stronger foothold in the Arctic region. In the early years of the Cold War, preparations for guerrilla warfare, attempts to protect vital intelligence, and efforts to keep up with the nuclear arms race were underway in the far north.
