Copland鈥檚 El Salon Mexico

The RLPO and Alpesh Chauhan present a concert inspired by the spirit of dance from the orchestra鈥檚 home in Liverpool including music by Copland, Britten, Simon and Ravel.

The spirit of dance weaves its way through tonight鈥檚 concert from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra at its home at the Philharmonic Hall. Alpesh Chauhan conducts a programme inspired on the one hand by the sights and sounds of an infamous Mexican club and on the other by Europe in fin de si猫cle turmoil. At the heart of today鈥檚 programme is the Violin Concerto by Benjamin Britten performed by the Dutch violinist Simone Lamsma, a former Artist-in-Residence with the RLPO. Britten鈥檚 lilting and melodious concerto ends with an impressive and virtuosic set of variations on a passacaglia.
