Episode 2

The celebrity chefs are first challenged to serve up restaurant-quality dishes inspired by the flavours of south India and Sri Lanka, and then have to recreate their own dinner party favourites.

Fifteen familiar faces from the world of showbiz are battling to prove their mettle in the kitchen. Only one can be crowned champion. Getting there will take courage, confidence and a hefty dose of culinary wizardry.

Week one is in full swing, and the first five celebrities in this year’s competition are about to have their cooking capabilities pushed even further. Two tense challenges await, which will culminate in one of the chefs being shown the door. The best four will head straight through to this week’s quarter-final.

The learning curve goes up steeply with their first task. Judges Grace Dent and John Torode have invited chef Karan Gokani, creative director and co-founder of the hugely successful Hoppers restaurants, to set today’s challenge. Influenced by his heritage and travels, Karan was inspired to bring the flavours of south India and Sri Lanka to the London scene, and today the celebs will each be in charge of delivering one of his technically challenging recipes. These are recipes Karan grew up cooking, adding that extra layer of pressure to an already stressful situation. Restaurant-quality dishes that pack a flavour punch in 90 minutes – what could possibly go wrong?

Having gained some invaluable cooking tips from Karan, the celebrities should be nicely primed for their last challenge of the day. This time it’s their own food, their two dinner party favourites, consisting of a main course and dessert, which should treat the judges to dishes that stand out from their regular home cooking. Execution will need to be on point, as at the end of this task, one celebrity will be heading back home. Nobody will want to be the first to leave the competition.

The four remaining chefs will be counting their lucky stars as they head into this year’s first quarter-final, one step closer to their dream of becoming Celebrity MasterChef Champion 2025.
