Delia Derbyshire
Hannah Peel delves into the sounds and stories of 5 female electronic pioneers. Tonight Delia Derbyshire a creator close to Hannah's heart who brought the theme from Dr Who to life
Composer Hannah Peel delves into the sounds and stories of five female electronic pioneers, exploring some of her personal musical heroes: women who paved the way for the sort of music she makes today.
In this programme Hannah presents a composer extremely close to her heart - Delia Derbyshire, who inspired one of her own albums. From famously realising the Dr Who theme on tape while part of the 麻豆社 Radiophonic Workshop to creating new sounds that hadn't been imagined before using ordinary household objects - Delia Derbyshire is an icon of electronic music.
Hannah is joined every night this week by producer and composer Marta Salogni to fire up some of the tape machines that Delia would have used.
