The New Real
David Edgar鈥檚 compelling drama explores the transforming democratic landscape. Two American political strategists do battle as Eastern Europe emerges from behind the Iron Curtain.
David Edgar鈥檚 political drama finds two American political consultants, formerly colleagues, advising opposing presidential candidates in an emerging democratic Eastern European country. It is not long before darker influences make their presence felt. An origin story for the populist politics that have spread across Europe and America, the play speaks powerfully to our times.
David Edgar鈥檚 original stage play, The New Real, was first performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company at The Other Place in Stratford in October 2024, directed by Holly Race Roughan. It was his tenth premiere with the company. David has been writing for theatre, television and radio since 1971. His plays have been performed across the world - in the UK, Ireland, throughout Europe, the US, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Japan. In 2023 the 麻豆社 published an audio collection of 17 productions of his work.
