Stafford 13

In Stafford, Christina learns about a local Victorian prankster who chronicled his misdeeds in an outrageous diary.

Christina Trevanion is in a mischievous mood in this episode from Staffordshire. She’s on the trail of a Victorian prankster who lived in the market town of Stafford. Some of the houses there have doors with no letter boxes, reputedly to stop practical joker William Marson from posting smoke bombs through them!

There’s no joking around when two teams of families go antiques-hunting for an hour. They waste no time finding three items to take to auction. In red are dad and daughter Leon and Sinead, guided by Izzie Balmer. Hoping to make a bigger profit than their opponents are mum and daughter Helen and Alice, alongside expert Nick Hall.

The reds are dazzled by a colourful lamp until Izzie suggests it’s a reproduction of an earlier, more collectable make. Meanwhile, Nick tests his team with an unusual metal item used to make ruffles and frills in starched linen. What could it be?

Down the road in Derby, auctioneer James Lewis is taking the bids, but can he hammer out a profit for the teams?
