Rachmaninov and Ravel

Adam Hickox conducts the 麻豆社 Philharmonic Orchestra in Rachmaninov's Symphonic Dances. Elisabeth Brauss joins them for Ravel's Piano Concerto in G.

Lush melody, infectious rhythm and Technicolour sound combine in Rachmaninov's last work, his 'Symphonic Dances'. His personal fusion of Russian heartfelt melody and bright American orchestration inspires music with immediate appeal, warmth and energy.

Elisabeth Brauss returns to the 麻豆社 Philharmonic for Ravel's Piano Concerto in G. Daring, unexpected jazz rhythms and French warmth are showcased in a work inspired by Mozartian spirit and clarity.

Camille P茅pin, whose piece 'Les Eaux c茅lestes' (Celestial Waters) opens the programme, describes her music as 'at the crossroads of French Impressionism and American contemporary music'. Japanese folklore inspires a tale woven in translucent music which draws us in from the very beginning.

Recorded at Manchester's Bridgewater Hall on 7 February, presented by Tom McKinney.
