It’s summer on the farm – one of the busiest times in the farming calendar. There are hundreds of sheep on the farm, and every year they need shearing, so it’s all hands on deck.

There’s an orchard at the edge of the farm, but years of neglect have let brambles, weeds and moss take over. Jane wants to restore it to its former glory and calls in an award-winning apple grower from County Armagh to see if he can help.

Summer means an abundance of flowers growing in the polytunnel – so many that Jane doesn’t know what to do with them all. She usually pulls together a posy for gifting or uses them in displays, but today she’s decided to try her hand at something different – the ancient Japanese craft of plant hammering, which creates beautiful botanical prints using the natural dyes found in plants.

Jane meets one of Northern Ireland’s finest willow weavers when she tries her hand at making her very own Ulster basket, traditionally used to teem potatoes.

Jane marks the end of summer with cake and ice-cream made using locally foraged ingredients.
