It’s winter in Shilnavogie – one of Jane’s busiest times, both on and off the farm. The winter months are all about the ‘reddin up’, the daily routine of feeding animals and keeping the farm tidy – easier said than done with Jane now seven months pregnant.
In the polytunnel, Jane is already thinking ahead to next year, when start a tulip patch of her own, inspired by her visit to Glenarm Castle walled garden in the spring.
Jane is also on a mission to save her dwindling flock of Jacob sheep. She was gifted the flock when she was just a child, and wants to hand it down to her young daughter Betsy – the problem is, there are only two sheep left. She is brought in a neighbour’s ram to see if he can save the flock, but he proves to be a challenging visitor.
Later, to add some colour during the bleak winter months, Jane makes a luscious winter wreath that will last through to spring.
As the festive season ends, the polytunnel plays host to a family gathering as Jane uses up her Christmas leftovers by making some festive pizzas.
