It's often said that a picture paints a thousand words, and tonight Edward Gardner takes to the helm of the London Philharmonic Orchestra in Mussorgsky's fantastical depiction of a hut on hen鈥檚 legs flying through a fairytale forest in his Pictures at an Exhibition, while Mark Anthony Turnage's portrayal of three robed priests venting their pain and rage raises the curtain on this evening's concert. Russian-born violinist Alina Ibragimova is the soloist in a work that, composed on the brink of war, remained unperformed and unpublished during Bart贸k's composer's lifetime - his Violin Concerto no. 1.
