The Â鶹Éç Philharmonic Orchestra Live from Salford Quays
Elizabeth Alker showcases the best performances from the UK and beyond, including Brahms and Mayer live from the Â鶹Éç Philharmonic Orchestra’s studio in Salford Quays.
Elizabeth Alker showcases the best performances by Â鶹Éç orchestras, choirs, ensembles and other great performing groups from Europe and around the globe.
The heart of today’s programme is a live concert from the players of the Â鶹Éç Philharmonic Orchestra, at home in their Salford studio. Tom Fetherstonhaugh conducts Mayer’s Overture in D and the Symphony No. 2 by Brahms, part of a major focus this week on his symphonic music performed by our Â鶹Éç Orchestras. We pay another visit to Hay on Wye for a double helping of Schubert, including the Carducci Quartet playing his early String Quartet in E flat. And we continue our focus this week on the superb Italian Baroque group Accademia Bizantina with a Vivaldi Violin Concerto performed last summer in Stockholm.
