Dusty demos and DIY dreams…
Settle in for a cosy one with Zakia and a selection of sweet homemade sounds, dusty demos and lo-fi gems. Plus, we hear from the New York-based pianist Eliana Glass.
DJ, broadcaster, writer and dreamer Zakia Sewell provides the soundtrack to your dreams - playing music to ease the mind, soothe the soul, and open portals to new dimensions…
Settle in for a cosy one with Zakia and a selection of sweet homemade sounds, dusty demos and lo-fi gems. Zakia’s guest this week is New York-based pianist and vocalist Eliana Glass, who invites listeners into her intimate soundworld in her latest album ‘E at Home’, a collection of demos written on her mum’s piano and recorded on a reel-to-reel with her brother. Eliana shares the backstory of her particularly special recording equipment, as well as a couple of songs that are very personal to her.
Elsewhere, Zakia takes inspiration from Eliana’s DIY ethos for the rest of the show, with a selection of sweet homemade sounds, dusty demos and lo-fi gems. We’ll hear the crooning of teenage brothers Donnie and Joe Emerson, recorded in their home studio in rural Washington state in the 70s, the hypnotic guitar playing of Niger’s Amaria Hamadalher recorded on a smartphone, and bedroom pop made by preteens on a sleepover in 2000. There’ll be new music from the likes of Emily A. Sprague, Duval Timothy and The Vernon Spring, as well as old favourites from Joan Baez, Blind Owl Wilson and Broadcast, AND we mark the birthday of one of the dreamiest musicians around - the one and only Enya.
We want to hear your dreams! Send in tales of your sleepy adventures to dreamtime@bbc.co.uk or Whatsapp us on 03700 100 600
