Brahms' Symphony No.4 from Liverpool

Mark Forrest with Dvorak, Mozart & Brahms from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and we hear Mahler lieder from baritone Andrew Hamilton and Haydn from the Chaos Quartet.

Al Ryan brings you an afternoon of live music and specially recorded performances from around the UK. In today’s programme, there’s more from the Barber Series of Lunchtime Concerts at the University of Birmingham, featuring the Chaos Quartet playing Haydn, as well as performances from Radio 3 New Generation Artists: the pianist Julius Asal performing Bartok and flautist Elizaveta Ivanova playing pieces by Clara Schumann.

We also bring you more recent live recordings from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra – this afternoon, you can hear Dvorak’s Water Goblin, Brahms’ Symphony No.4 and Mozart’s Piano Concert No.27 with Paul Lewis. And we’ll also hear from Radio 3’s current crop of New Generation Artists – baritone Andrew Hamilton sings Mahler, and clarinettist Oleg Shebeta-Dragan performs a Pocket-Sized Sonata by Alec Templeton.
