The Britten Sinfonia in the first of two live concerts from Snape Maltings, featuring music by Lisa Illean, Brett Dean and Laura van der Heijden in the Britten Cello Symphony.
The Britten Sinfonia in the first of two live concerts from Snape Maltings, introduced by Martin Handley and featuring music, in part, inspired by the past. Lisa Illean offers a re-imagining of music by the Franco-Flemish early renaissance composer Gilles Binchois alongside a new work, Swellsongs with Australian recorder-player Genevieve Lacey. Also on the programme is Brett Dean's masterly Carlo - his response to the music of Carlo Gesualdo. In the second half, Laura van der Heijden is the soloist in one of Benjamin Britten's most extensive orchestral works, his Cello Symphony.
