Intent to Kill: The Ashley Dale Murder
A ballistics expert proves the shooting of a young woman was murder not manslaughter, and a forensic scientist secures justice for a cold case victim, 20 years after the crime.
The true crime documentary series that reveals how expert witnesses helped solve some of the UKs most complex major crime cases.
This episode starts in Liverpool, where 28-year-old Ashley Dale is found with a gunshot wound in the backyard of her house in the Old Swan area of the city and dies later in hospital. As rumours of a gang feud circle, police believe that Ashley was not the intended target, but with no-one talking to police, it will take CCTV to find the gunman and the expertise of ballistics expert Andre Horne to solve the case. By recreating the events of that night and the bullet trajectories, a suspect鈥檚 claim of an accidental shooting turns into murder. The programme includes compelling interviews from Andre Horne, Ashley鈥檚 mum Julie Dale and reporter Jonny Humphries.
In 1986, after a child is abducted and sexually assaulted in Berkshire, police work tirelessly to catch the offender, but the case goes cold. Twenty-two years later, the investigation is reopened and forensic scientist Andrew Parry, a specialist in cold cases, is brought on board but hits a dead end, as the majority of forensic evidence no longer exists. With one single piece of forensic tape from the crime scene, he makes a match to a suspect and finally brings justice to the victim.
