The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra perform Mahler's First Symphony
Mark Forrest introduces an afternoon of specially made recordings of orchestral music from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and chamber performances from the St. Magnus Festival.
Mark Forrest presents an afternoon of exclusive music-making, with recordings from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and chamber music from St. Magnus Festival on Orkney, which this year marked its 50th anniversary.
At the centre of the programme, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Vasily Petrenko, performs Gustav Mahler's First Symphony - a voyage through life and death, birdsong and fanfares, funeral marches and Viennese waltzes.
The award-winning voices from the Marian Consort perform a sumptuous motet from Renaissance composer Johannes Lupi in Kirkwall Cathedral on Orkney; and from the City Halls in Glasgow, Roderick Williams performs his own orchestral arrangement of George Butterworth's 'A Shropshire Lad,' with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra conducted by Andrew Manze.
