The Real Italian Job

Andrew Cotter looks at the football lives of Scottish players Edna Neillis and Rose Reilly, and their against-the-odds journey to Italy, where they enjoyed successful pro careers.

Scottish men鈥檚 football saw an incredible impact in Italian football last season with Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour winning the Scudetto with Napoli and Lewis Ferguson captaining Bologna to the Coppa Italia.

However, historically, in the women鈥檚 game, Italian clubs often turned to Scottish players to strengthen their squads, with over 20 playing in Serie A across the 70s and 80s.

This episode of Scotland v The World, hosted by Andrew Cotter, will focus on the incredible achievement of two maverick Scottish female players during this era in Italian football. Ayrshire-born footballer Rose and her extraordinary journey from Stewarton to the San Siro, and the hugely talented Edna Neillis, who played with Rose at AC Milan and was once told by Jock Stein that he would put her in the Celtic team if she was a boy.
