Three hours of classical sparkle

Join Sarah Walker for a Sunday mix inspired by summer and folk traditions, with Renaissance choral music, new discoveries and a symphonic gem from Vasily Kalinnikov.

This week, Sarah Walker鈥檚 playlist takes its inspiration from the height of summer, from birdsong and balmy evenings to village greens and folk festivals.

There鈥檚 a new release from the Moravian-born Classical composer Paul Wranitzky, Peter Warlock鈥檚 Serenade for Strings, and Webern鈥檚 richly atmospheric Im Sommerwind.

Sarah also pauses for this week鈥檚 Choral Reflection with Thomas Tallis鈥檚 Tunes for Archbishop Parker鈥檚 Psalter, before exploring how composers from Vaughan Williams and Jan谩膷ek to Kathryn Tickell have drawn inspiration from traditional folk music.

And for the morning鈥檚 chance to put down the to-do list and settle in for something a little longer, Sarah turns to Vasily Kalinnikov鈥檚 Second Symphony 鈥 a richly melodic work that deserves to be heard far more often.
