Gustav Mahler: Symphony No. 9
Mahler Academy Orchestra
Philipp von Steinaecker (conductor)
Death haunts Mahler鈥檚 monumental Ninth Symphony, woven right through it from the brooding farewell of a first movement 鈥 鈥榯he greatest Mahler ever composed鈥, according to Alban Berg 鈥 to the finale鈥檚 radiant, distant vision of a world beyond. Musicians from across Europe come together under Philipp von Steinaecker in the Mahler Academy Orchestra鈥檚 Proms debut. This pioneering project combines student players with professionals from Europe鈥檚 best ensembles to explore and recreate the instruments Mahler himself would have known, generating a performance as close as possible to the work鈥檚 original sound and style.
