This week Prayer for the day is commemorating and remembering the anniversary of 9/11 talking to people impacted and involved in the recovery work at the time and within communities in the 25 years since. With Fr Samuel Davis associate priest at St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine New York.

Good Morning.

Twenty-five years ago, darkness seemed to swallow the light, and dust and sorrow filled the skies.
Yet, out of the devasting smoke and shattered stone, GOD called us to stand…
…to bear our heartbreak… and taught us that love is fiercer than hate, and that hope cannot be buried beneath the ruin.

On this twenty fifth anniversary of September eleventh, we gather our hearts in humble remembrance.
We honor the precious lives lost in New York City, at the Pentagon, and in the quiet fields of Shanksville.
We remember the brave heroes who ran into danger, the families whose lives were forever altered, and the sacred grief that lingers in our hearts.

God of all time…You have lifted us up.

You gave us beauty for ashes, strength for despair, and unity where division sought to break us.
You showed us the resilient spirit of humanity, the hands that reached out to heal, the voices that prayed together, and the courage that rebuilt what was lost.

Today… as we look upon the sacred grounds where tragedy struck… we witness the beauty of a nation that has risen from the ashes.
We pray for continued peace across our world and healing for every lingering wound.

Grant us grace to remember with purpose, to choose love over fear, kindness over bitterness, and unity over discord.

Keep our hearts forever watchful, our spirits steadfast, and our faith unshakable.

May the memory of those we lost serve as an everlasting flame, guiding us toward a brighter, more peaceful tomorrow.

Out of the dust, You raised us; in Your light, we endure.

In Your holy and eternal name.
