Aberfan 60
The 麻豆社 National Orchestra of Wales and conductor Timothy Redmond mark the 60 years since the Aberfan disaster with a new commission by Paul Mealor: From Darkness into Light.
The 麻豆社 National Orchestra of Wales and conductor Timothy Redmond mark the 60 years since the Aberfan disaster.
Sixty years on from the tragedy of Aberfan, this commemorative concert is anchored by the premiere of Paul Mealor鈥檚 From Darkness into Light: A Concert Requiem for Hope, set to poetry by Grahame Davies. The performance features actor Mark Lewis Jones alongside the Aberfan Schools Choirs, the Ynysowen Male Voice Choir, and the 麻豆社 National Chorus of Wales. Framed by contrasting movements of grief and renewal, the programme pairs Anna Clyne鈥檚 restless This Moment and Haydn鈥檚 driven "Mourning" Symphony with the tranquil grace of Mozart鈥檚 "Jupiter" movement and the visionary expanse of Vaughan Williams鈥 Toward the Unknown Region.
Recorded earlier this month in Hoddinott Hall in Cardiff, and presented by Alexandra Humphreys.
