Sian Eleri鈥檚 麻豆社 Children in Need Road Trip

Radio 1 presenter Sian Eleri follows Pudsey Bear鈥檚 clues on a road trip around Wales to meet the special young people and projects benefiting from 麻豆社 Children in Need funding.

Radio 1 presenter Sian Eleri takes on an almighty challenge when 麻豆社 Children in Need鈥檚 Pudsey Bear sends her on a Wales-wide road trip. Her mission is to find six Children in Need-funded projects across Wales that support the development and well-being of young people. But Pudsey doesn鈥檛 make it easy. Each step of the way, she must solve one of Pudsey鈥檚 riddles before she can proceed to her next destination. The bear has also roped in 麻豆社 1鈥檚 Morning Live presenter Gethin Jones and Radio 2鈥檚 early breakfast show host Owain Wyn Evans to bamboozle Sian on her journey.

The first project is at Tal Y Sarn farm on Anglesey where 麻豆社 Children In Need funded gymnastics sessions helped 18-year-old Abby overcome anxiety and an eating disorder. Next, Sian visits Theatr Clwyd in Mold where she meets Eleanor who has global developmental delay and autism. Sian hears how the Theatr鈥檚 Fuse sessions give Eleanor an important creative outlet and safe space to make friends and build her confidence.

Sian鈥檚 third project is ASD Rainbows in Mountain Ash in the Cynon Valley. Here, 麻豆社 Children in Need funding pays for staffing for an after-school club which supports neurodivergent children like 7-year-old Olly. And in Cardiff Bay, Sian learns how a grant to the project Silkfutures to support rap music sessions has helped develop many young people鈥檚 self-confidence and given them the space to express themselves freely.

Next is Talking Hands, a charity in Swansea that teaches British Sign Language and supports deaf youngsters in Wales like 8-year-old Tom. Sian鈥檚 final project is Surfability. Based at Caswell Bay beach on the Gower peninsula, it helps children with additional needs and their siblings go surfing together. Here, the Radio 1 presenter has the chance to meet twin brothers Jakey and Ethan and see how Jakey, who has Down鈥檚 syndrome and is non-verbal, takes to the surfboard like a duck to water.

Along the way, Sian鈥檚 resilience is tested when she takes up pottery, mountain biking, surfing and open-air swimming before being reunited with Pudsey, who surprises her with an end-of-road trip wrap party.
