The Territorial Army in Hitchin has begun a recruitment campaign to increase volunteers from the black community.
D Squadron 254 Medical Regiment is currently 40% undermanned and needs an extra 30 people to join to reach full strength.
It comes as the government wants the TA to play a bigger role following army cuts to reduce the deficit.
Captain John Ekpa, who also works at Milton Keynes Hospital, told our reporter Matt Lockwood that passing out a Sandhurst was one of the proudest moments of his life.
