The first series of Blackadder started on 15 June 1983. The medieval historical sitcom starred Rowan Atkinson as Edmund, Duke of Edinburgh - who styled himself The Black Adder.

Before any series gets the go ahead for transmission, a ‘pilot’ programme is normally made – a kind of dry run of the first episode. Rarely seen outside the confines of the TV executive viewing room, here is part of the pilot episode for Blackadder.
