The European Court of Justice has ruled that individuals can request internet search engines such as Google to remove links to old information. The case was brought by a Spanish man who complained that a search of his name in Google brought up newspaper articles from 16 years ago that he would rather forget. Discussing this, Viktor Mayer-Schönberger is Professor of Internet Governance and Regulation at the University of Oxford; his books include Delete: The Virtue of Forgetting in the Digital Age.
