The University of Portsmouth Dramatic and Musical Society is giving Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical Allegro its first full British orchestral performance.

With minimal staging and a Greek chorus, it was not what audiences expected when it came out in 1947. The production was a flop and never transferred to the West End.

Oscar Hammerstein called the musical his most autobiographical and Director of Music Colin Jagger says

"The music is Rodgers' best score, I say that without any hesitation".
