The #MyMothersNameIs campaign and Indian sprinter Dutee Chand

A video hoping to break the cultural taboo of not using a mothers' name in public has gone viral. #MyMothersNamIs is hoping to open up a conversation about gender equality

A video that tackles the taboo in the Arab world of not using mothers鈥 names in public has gone viral in the past couple of days. Launched under the #MyMothersNameIs, the UN initiative has opened up a larger conversation about women鈥檚 rights and gender equality in the Middle East and beyond. The aim is to encourage people to publicly acknowledge their mothers鈥 names, and over time to shift public attitudes and end the taboo.

We鈥檒l also hear a conversation about the fate of Dutee Chand. She鈥檚 the 19 year old Indian sprint champion who has today launched an appeal after being banned from international athletics for failing a gender test. The results had shown higher than permitted levels of testosterone in her body. Her case is unique as 鈥 unlike other female athletes in a similar situation 鈥 she has refused medical treatment such as hormone therapy.
