The Liberal Democrats have promised to act as a "rock of stability, continuity and conscience" in a future coalition government, as they put education at the centre of their election manifesto.

Schools Minister David Laws has defended the Liberal Democrats鈥� performance in government.

鈥淣o party in a coalition can deliver all of its manifesto鈥�, he said.

But he refused to be drawn on 鈥渞ed line鈥� issues, saying this would be a 鈥渘uts鈥� negotiating position to take.
