Was Joe Hart the one Arsenal let slip through their fingers?
Ex-Shrewsbury Town midfielder Ben Smith claims an Arsenal scout told him he "wasn't sure" a young Joe Hart was "quite agile enough" to play for the Gunners.
Smith, who started his career at Arsenal, said while playing for The Shrews between 2004 and 2006 ex-teammate Hart stood out as βhead and shoulders above the rest of usβ.
"Steve Rowley, chief scout at Arsenal came to a Shrewsbury game," said Smith. "He asked me about Joe and I gave him a glowing reference. He said he's one of the best three keepers in Europe for his age."
"About six weeks later Everton came down - they sent down Chris Woods who was their goalie coach who took Joe training at our training ground. Everton took him with a view to look like they were going to buy him. I rang up Arsenal and I spoke to Steve and he said I'm not sure he's quite agile enough," he added.
