Charity volunteer in Athens: Abandoned children ‘very sad’
A charity volunteer in Athens says “it is very sad” that so many children have been abandoned by their parents due to the financial crisis.
5live’s Anna Foster visited a hospital where rooms house up to 20 abandoned children at a time.
Irene, who works for the charity Diaconia, said that despite working with the children for over a year she still found the experience upsetting.
“Many times we feel sad because we know why these children are here” she said. ”But when we are playing with them everything is ok.”
