Female surgeons face 'hostile environment''
Consultant urologist Jyoti Shah, and Clare Marx, the first woman President of the Royal College of Surgeons, discuss whether there is sexism in the profession of surgery.
A leading female surgeon has told this programme that the operating theatre is 'a hostile environment for women'. Consultant urologist Jyoti Shah said women in her field face sexism everyday, because its ingrained into the culture.
It comes as the first woman President of the Royal College of Surgeons, Clare Max said there needs to be a focus on the development of women in surgery to enable more of them to become leaders. Our reporter Sima Kotecha has been to meet Jyoti Shah at the Staffordshire hospital where she works and we spoke to Clare Marx.
