Speaking on 5 live Sport, following Wales鈥 qualification for Euro 2016, Savage said: 鈥淚 think, you know, we mustn鈥檛 forget what Gary started with this team. He was an inspiration to all of the players, and I鈥檓 sure that he鈥檒l be in a lot of their hearts tonight.

鈥淗e was a great guy, but what Chris Coleman鈥檚 done is he鈥檚 carried on the fantastic work that Gary Speed did, and he鈥檚 taken this squad and galvanised them."

He also praised the achievement of the Wales team: 鈥淭hey put in performances every time they play 鈥 okay it wasn鈥檛 the best performance tonight 鈥 but they鈥檝e qualified for the first time since 1958 for a major tournament and it鈥檚 incredible really.鈥
