MPs vote on controversial plans for English votes for English laws on October 22. Conservative Chris Grayling and Peter Wishart, SNP, debated the issue.

MPs vote on controversial plans for English votes for English laws on October 22. The Prime Minister announced there would be a new deal for England when he promised greater devolution for Scotland after voters rejected independence in the referendum last year.

Both Labour and the Scottish National Party have indicated they will vote against the government proposals.

The bill has been steered through by the leader of the Commons, Conservative Chris Grayling and is strongly opposed by the SNP.

Mr Grayling and Peter Wishart, the shadow leader of the house on the Scottish Nationalist benches, spoke to the Today programme about the issue.
