A decade as the UN's refugee chief
Vast numbers of migrants and refugees have made their way to Europe in 2015, sparking a crisis as countries struggle to cope with the influx. The conflict in Syria continues to be by far the biggest driver of the migration. But ongoing violence in Afghanistan, abuses in Eritrea and poverty in Kosovo is also leading people to look for new lives elsewhere. Antonio Guterres is the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. Today (Dec 31) is his last day in office after more than ten years being in the position. When he took office there were 38 million people displaced around the world. Today that figure is 60 million. Antonio Guterres has been the man right in the eye of the storm. He has been speaking to Newsday's Lawrence Pollard.
