Astronaut Tim Peake 'took my job' says Olympic canoeist
Double Olympic canoe slalom silver medallist and three time world champion David Florence joked that astronaut Tim Peake stole his job after applying to join the European Space Agency at the same time.
Florence, who won silver in Beijing and London, studied mathematical physics at Nottingham University and even started to learn Russian in case he was successful.
The 33-year-old told the Friday Sports Panel, alongside cricketer Sam Billings and triathlete Vicky Holland that Peake was "infinitely better qualified" to become an astronaut than him but admitted there was still a part of him that thought he could be on the International Space Station.
