Does this solve the mystery of Easter Island?

Easter Island, which belongs to Chile, is most famous for it鈥檚 giant stone heads. More than 800 of these statues were created by the Rapa Nui, but by the 1860鈥檚 almost all of these people were wiped out.

Some academics have long believed that deforestation and lack of resources led to warfare, killing off most of the population. However, Carl Lipo of Binghamton University, New York, says this cannot be the case. He gave Newsday his darker, if not more familiar, explanation.
