'A very able judge' - so why keep his own counsel so long?
Have you heard the one about the US Supreme Court Judge who said nothing in court for 10 years? Well, it is not a joke. For the last decade, Clarence Thomas - one of the nine US Supreme Court Judges - has not asked a single question in court. And then on Monday, he broke his silence.
To find out more about this odd situation Newsday spoke to Adam Liptak, the Supreme Court Reporter for the New York Times, and started with the obvious question - why has one of the most powerful judges in America been silent in court for 10 years?
