Record producer Sir George Martin, known as the "fifth Beatle", has died, aged 90.

Martin was "lovely to work with鈥� and 鈥渟o helpful he was like a teacher鈥� writer and documentary-maker Ray Connolly, who interviewed the Beatles multiple times, told the Today programme.

"He made the Beatles because he knew everything there was to know about classical music鈥�and [the Beatles] knew everything there was to know about rock and roll 鈥� put the two together, classical and rock and roll, and you get Eleanor Rigby."
