The death of the man dubbed "the fifth Beatle", Sir George Martin, has led lots of people to try to assess his impact on music - not just in the 1960s but for producers working today too.
He was a pioneer and an innovator, working with technology which seems remarkably basic now.
Newsday spoke to composer, musician and composer Matthew Herbert about the debt people like him owe to Sir George.
