Five years on from Japan's most powerful earthquake
Rupert Wingfield-Hayes goes back to one of the communities in Rikuzentakata to see what the town is like five years after the earthquake and tsunami that hit northeast Japan.
Exactly five years today, a giant earthquake and tsunami hit northeast Japan, leaving more than 18,000 people dead or missing.
Tsunamis, some thought to be as high as 40m, created by the magnitude 9-quake, wiped out entire villages along the coastline.
The 麻豆社's Rupert Wingfield-Hayes went back to one of the communities in Rikuzentakata to see what the town is like five years on.
