Sierra Leone’s new leader, Captain Valentine Strasser, has wasted no time in wielding his power – starting with the deportation of ex-President Momoh, he is now investigating many ministers for crimes such as corruption. Presenter Robin White and guests – including Desmond Luke, the country’s Foreign Minister from 1973-75 – discuss Captain Strasser and his chances of ending the war.

Also on the programme, the devastating drought that’s afflicting much of Africa, especially Zimbabwe; the civil discontent in Malawi; and the power struggles in South Africa that could see it slipping into civil war – if it hasn’t done so already.
