Canadian psychiatric team rushing to remote indigenous community
An emergency psychiatric team is being sent to an isolated indigenous community in Canada to deal with a surge in suicide attempts. The team is expected to arrive in Attawapiskat, a community of around 2,000 people in northern Ontario province, within the next few days. Community leaders say there have been about 100 attempted suicides in the last six months. This past weekend alone 11 people from the Attawapiskat First Nation tried to take their lives in a single day.
