Saudi Arabia plans for a post-oil future
The Saudi Arabian government wants to make the country less reliant on oil. It's approved a plan aimed at modernising the economy over the next 15 years. Measures include creating a $2 trillion global investment fund, and selling a small number of shares in Aramco, the biggest oil company in the world, which is currently entirely state owned. John Sfakianakis is a former adviser to the Saudi economic minister and now director of economics at the Gulf Research Center in Riyadh. Alex Ritson asked him where the money for the $2 trillion fund was coming from.
